It's paying to support the content you tried and enjoyed so far. Patronage shouldn't be considered paying to get an update.
Click to expand.To be fair, if someone is asking for the patreon version just to 'see what's new' to get an incentive, chances are he will probably grab the copy, don't pay anyway and then wait for someone to share the fully released game.
